October 5, in the city of Sumy, within the framework of cooperation between Sumy State University and the NGO Lifelong Learning Centre, representatives of the Centre conducted a training intensive “Psychological Support during Explosions” for students of 1-4 courses of the specialty 053 Psychology.
During the six-hour training, the students were able to gain important skills to address urgent psychological needs in crisis situations. The training was conducted by Victoria Sukhareva, an experienced psychiatrist, psychotherapist and psychologist who works at the Sumy Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans. The trainer's expertise allowed the students to gain practical knowledge and skills in the effective use of first aid.
The training “Psychological Support during Explosions” is part of a larger project “Strength of Spirit: Comprehensive Psychological Support for Veterans and Their Families in Sumy Oblast”. The project is implemented by the NGO “Center for Lifelong Learning” with the technical administration of ISAR Ednannia and with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine. The initiative is funded by the European Union under the EU4Recovery - Community Empowerment in Ukraine project, as well as with the financial support of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
We are confident that the students not only had the opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills on the topic of the training, which will be invaluable in case of need to provide support to those in need in crisis situations, but also to try the role of a “participant” in the training on their own experience. It was a great opportunity to experience all the peculiarities of conducting a training within the discipline “Fundamentals of Psychological Training”.
