November 22, Maryna Vasina, a forensic expert of the Sumy Branch of the National Scientific Center “Bokarius Institute of Forensic Expertise” shared her experience on working with women victims of domestic violence with the students.
The meeting was held in the context of the course “Gender Studies: Concepts and Practices”, which is conducted under the Erasmus+ grant program Jean Monnet Module “European values of intercultural dialogue in education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches” (“European values of intercultural dialogue in education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches” - EUROVALID).
Maryna Vasina, as an expert psychologist, familiarized the students with the main tasks of forensic psychological examination in determining the degree of suffering of women who suffer from domestic violence, explained the types of violence, noted what actions a woman who is subjected to violence should take, and the role of law enforcement agencies and social services in preventing domestic violence against women and girls in particular.
The students were interested in real-life stories of women who have been victims of domestic violence and methods to work with them. The meeting concluded with the thesis that no form of violence against women or girls can be justified. Violence, regardless of whether it is committed in public or in private, is unacceptable and violates human rights.
