First-year students within the discipline System of Organization of Social Services with the content module: Organization of Social Work Documentation Systems, together with the assistant of the Department of Psychology, Political Science, Socio-Cultural Technologies visited the following institutions: “Center for Assistance to Rescued Persons”, Office of the Regional Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Sumy City Territorial Center for Social Services (provision of social services) ‘Berehynia’, and the Main Department of the National Social Service in Sumy Region.
The first institution visited was the office of the regional office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights - “Ombudsman of Ukraine” and met with its representative Tetyana Myronenko. The students had the opportunity to learn about the activities of the Ombudsman's office, in particular, the protection of citizens' rights, mechanisms for appealing to the Ombudsman and the role of regional offices in monitoring human rights.
The next institution to be visited was the Center for Assistance to the Rescued. The center employs qualified specialists who provide social and psychological assistance to all residents of Sumy, Sumy region and IDPs in need. The applicants had the opportunity to learn in detail about the forms and types of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), their consequences and how to help victims in such a difficult life situation.
During the visit to the Main Directorate of the National Social Service in Sumy Region, which works to ensure social well-being and protect the rights of citizens by implementing state social policy and monitoring compliance with the requirements of the law in the provision of social services, social support and children's rights, the applicants were able to get acquainted with each area of the organization's activities and personally ask questions to the specialists and heads of departments.
The applicants also visited the municipal institution “Berehynia”. The Sumy City Territorial Center for Social Services (provision of social services) “Berehynia” gladly told the applicants about the specifics of their work and introduced the principles of individual approach, accessibility and openness in working with people. The number of areas covered by the city center and the number of services that target groups can use is impressive.
We, the students of the educational program “Social Work”, would like to sincerely thank you for this opportunity to visit municipal institutions and centers in our city! This was a unique opportunity for us, as future social work professionals, to dive deeper into practical activities and see how work is organized in these institutions. We gained a lot of useful experience and were able to familiarize ourselves with different approaches to working with people in need.
I would especially like to emphasize the high professionalism of the employees of these institutions. They showed us how important care, attention, and empathy are to clients. This example inspires us to become true professionals in our field!
