November 28, students of the Social Work and Psychology study programs met with Yulia Sirenko, case manager of the Rockada Charitable Foundation, on the occasion of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
Recently, the issue of gender-based violence has been increasingly attracting public attention. For students, future specialists in social work and psychology, understanding this problem is especially important. Therefore, today, students of various courses had the opportunity to take part in a training dedicated to this topic.
During the training, students learned about
- what gender equality is, gender-based violence;
- types of violence, its causes and consequences;
- how to identify and respond to violence;
- ethical support for victims and personal safety while helping victims.
The trainees were familiarized with the fact that violence can manifest itself in various forms, from overt acts of aggression to more subtle forms of manipulation and control. Ms. Yulia provided specific examples of each type of violence, which helped students better understand their diversity and complexity.
Particular attention was paid to the consequences of gender-based violence. Students learned about the physical and psychological trauma that can occur as a result of violence, as well as its long-term impact on the victim's life. Case manager Yulia Sirenko emphasized the importance of supporting and helping victims, as well as the need to fight social tolerance for violence.
