As part of the All-Ukrainian action “16 Days Against Violence” and on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, students presented research projects on the history of the feminist movement.

The event was held in the context of the implementation of the tasks of the elective course “Gender Studies: Concepts and Practices” taught under the Erasmus+ grant program Jean Monnet Module “European values of intercultural dialogue in education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches” (“European values of intercultural dialogue in education: interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches” - EUROVALID).

The young men and women discussed the origins of feminist movements, found out the role of suffragettes in the struggle for women's suffrage, as well as against discrimination against women in the legal field, political and economic life; paid attention to modern types and trends of feminism: gender reform, gender resistance, gender rebellion, liberal, radical and cultural feminism. The facts of discrimination against women in certain cultures: deprivation of the right to education, political expression, humiliation in the family, etc. provoked a lively discussion. The speakers told the stories of the first women suffragettes J. E. Harrison, E. Pankhurst, and S. Anthony.

They did not ignore the stories of Ukrainian women feminists, and told about Natalia Kobrynska, who created a Ukrainian women's organization, the Society of Russian Women, whose goal was to create conditions under which women could go outside the home - creating “okhranok” (prototypes of kindergartens), communal kitchens, etc., as well as the opportunity to create women's cooperative enterprises to gain economic independence. Attention was paid to the activities of Ukrainian women's rights advocates Olga Kobylyanska, Maria Vilinska, Khrysta Alchevska, and Lisa Ukrainka, whose ideas gave birth to the modern understanding of gender equality and ways to combat gender discrimination.
