As part of thematic seminars for the Sumy State University community, the topic of gender equality indices and Ukraine's place in international rankings of gender (in)equality was discussed. The seminar was conducted by Yulia Savelieva, a senior lecturer at the Department of PPST.
The main purpose of such country rankings is to identify the main aspects of inequality between women and men both within the country and in comparison with other countries of the world. The data collected from countries, which are the basis for determining quantitative integral indicators, are then used to make informed and effective management decisions in all spheres of life, which contributes to gender equality and social justice.
In addition, the calculation of gender equality indices is a response to Ukraine's commitments to European integration, as it harmonizes the development indicators of Ukraine and the EU. The assessment of the current state and evolution of gender parity is tracked by key dimensions of progress - economic participation and opportunities, time allocation, education, health and survival, political opportunities, etc. Over the past decade, Ukraine has traditionally remained in the middle of the pack in terms of gender equality, although progress has undoubtedly been made.
All this and much more can be found in the recording of the seminar.
